Husson Rolls to a 91-55 NAC Win Over Johnson State

Box Score

Bangor, ME – Husson University men's basketball won its sixth straight and seventh in North Atlantic Conference play vs. Johnson State College Saturday at Newman Gymnasium. Aaron Willis had the hot hand on the afternoon for Husson, scoring 14 points with three assists and two steals.

Things were close in the early going, but Eric Modica scored five straight points for the Eagles, followed by a Wes Murphy three to put Husson up 20-12 just over eight minutes into the game.

Johnson State cut the Husson lead to four moments later, but the Green and Gold started to pull away in the latter part of the first. Husson lead by as many as 17 in the first frame leading up to a deep Donte Cottonham three at the buzzer to put the Eagles up 19 at the half.

Husson continued their dominance in the second, playing six players consistently off the bench the entire game.

"The thing we look at at our group is how deep we are," head coach Warren Caruso said. "We played 11 or 12 guys this weekend in quality minute time and they all performed very well."

Husson lead by as many as 39 in the second half, managing 69 shots on the evening, hitting at a 48% clip. Husson also turned the ball over only 10 times on the day, compared to JSC's 29 turnovers. The Eagles outrebounded the Badgers by 12 as well, 36-24.

Cody Camisa and Bryan Hickey put in tough efforts for Johnson. Camisa led all scorers in the game with 18 points, pulled down two boards and had a steal and an assist. Hickey added a double-double, scoring 12 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.

Caruso continued: "That was the best 40 minutes we've played all season from an execution standpoint and it was really good weekend with a lot of people contributing. The direction we're heading in is really positive but we have to stay focused. We're only half way through the season and we have a lot of basketball still to play."

Both Husson and Johnson are off until Thursday evening when each will play an in-state rival. Husson will travel to Farmington to take on the Beavers and Johnson travels to Castleton with tip-offs being at 7:30pm.
