Box Score Bangor, ME – The Husson women's basketball team picked up their second North Atlantic Conference (NAC) win in a row on Friday night in Newman Gymnasium, defeating the Lyndon State Hornets 62-57. With the win, Husson climbs to 3-8 overall (3-4 NAC), while Lyndon drops to 4-8 (2-5 NAC).
The Eagles went on a 16-4 run to open the first half and the held the lead for the rest of the half. The Hornets brought it within two points at 27-25 with 2:16 left in the half, but Chrissy Larrabee (Brooks, ME) put away a jumper to expand the Eagles lead to four at the half. Larrabee put away 8 points in the first half and 11 on the night, but three of her Eagles teammates put away even bigger scoring numbers.
The second half saw a much closer match between the two teams. The Hornets hacked away at the Eagles' lead, finding themselves with a 45-45 tie game with 6:49 left to play and 49-49 with 5:23 remaining. Comstock, McIntyre, and Murray put points on the board to bring the Husson lead to 5, and the Eagles never lost the lead again, closing out the game 62-57.
Junior Stephanie Comstock (Bangor, ME) was on fire for Husson, scoring a game-high 19 points and grabbing 9 rebounds, just short of a double-double. Senior captain Kelli Murray (Shawmut, ME) put up 11 points and snatched 6 rebounds, while rookie Victoria McIntyre had 12 points and 8 rebounds for the game.
For the Hornets, Donna Lawson (Irasburg, VT) scored a team-high 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the game's only double-double performance. Aimee Thompson (Bradford, VT) added an additional 10 points for Lyndon State.
Both teams will be back in action on Saturday at 1:00 PM, with Lyndon traveling to Maine Maritime and Husson hosting Johnson State.
