Husson Stings Lyndon; Five Score in Double Figures

Box Score

Bangor, ME – The Husson University Men's Basketball team downed the Hornets of Lyndon State College Friday night by a final score of 93-79. Wes Muprhy scored a team-high 19 points along with some key second half minutes from several bench players to earn the win.

The pace in the early going was frantic, as both teams put up 70 shots on the evening with Husson holding the rebounding edge 40-37. The Eagles held a 16-point lead at several points during the first half and led by 12 at the break.

The story of the game came in the second half when Lyndon was able to cut the Husson lead down to six at 57-51. Moments later Jon Klages found a wide open Phil Leighton for three and Murphy promptly stole the ensuing inbounding pass and laid it in to put the Eagles back up by 11.

Ten Husson players scored on the night, with five of them being in double figures. Eric Modica notched 17 points and seven rebounds, Aaron Willis scored ten of his 15 points in the second half, and both Leighton and Spaulding finished with 11.

Lyndon senior Jason Gray poured in a game-high 22 points on 41% shooting and hitting seven of the eight free-throws he attempted. George Carle had 15 points, eight rebounds and Devyn Baranauskas scored 13 points respectively.

"I thought it was a real good team win and I was really pleased with minutes in the second half," head coach Warren Caruso said after the win. "Dan Fleming and Jon Klages really provided a lift for us mid way through the second half and I really thought that was the difference in the game for us."

Both Husson teams will be back in action in less than 24 hours as they take on Johnson State Saturday the 12th. The women tip at 1:00pm and the men at 3:00.
