Box Score LYNDON CENTER, VT — Husson jumped out to a 2-0 lead at halftime and coasted to a 3-0 North Atlantic Conference victory over Lyndon at the Lyndon Athletic Field on Sunday afternoon.
Sophomore Phil Frost (Bangor, ME) scored the first goal of the game at 24:32 off assists from Sophomore Stephen Berenyi (Levant, ME) and Junior Zach Emeigh (Ellsworth, ME). Less than 13 minutes later, Frost struck again at 37:06, this time off a pass from Taylor Wentworth (Ellsworth, ME), to up the Eagles' advantage to 2-0 heading into intermission.
Early in the second half in the 53rd minute, Sophomore Patrick Van Dessel (Dover, NH) would pick up a rebound of a James Crawford shot from several meters out and deposit a shot into the back of the Hornet goal behind keeper Jason Gray.
Husson Sophomore goalie Brian Potter (Waterville, ME) made five saves to earn the shutout while Gray and Jason Marks combined to make 11 saves for Lyndon (2-8, 1-3). The Eagles (6-3, 3-1) outshot the hosts 23-11 and had five corners kicks in the game to the Hornets' one.
"This was a gritty performance led by Phil Frost's two goals against a tough Lyndon State team." Coach Jeff Gettler said after the win. "Our team showed great mental toughness in getting an important shutout win on the road."
Husson will play again next weekend at New England College on Saturday, October 6, at 3:30PM and will host Wheaton (MA) Sunday, October 7, at 4:00PM.
