Husson Dominates in Win Over Johnson State

Box Score

Johnson, VT - Husson beat Johnson State 5-0 Saturday afternoon at Minaert Field.

The Eagles wasted little time in scoring when Senior Goalkeeper Mason Smith (Houma, LA) perfectly placed a ball to Sophomore Stephen Berenyi (Levant, ME) who then took it to the net in the 25th minute. Sophomore Phil Frost (Bangor, ME) scored just minutes later in the 33rd minute from a pass from Sophomore Jacob Erskine (Sidney, ME). Again, just three and a half minutes later Frost netted another goal off a dead ball touch from First Year Alain Tuyishime (Portland, ME).

Scoring did not stop there for the Eagles who added two more goals in the second half.  Both came from Junior Zach Emeigh (Ellsworth, ME). Emeigh's first goal of the game came at 71:45 off a give and go pass from Sophomore Patrick Van Dessel (Dover, NH). Emeigh netted his second goal on a breakaway pass from Sophomore Kyle Hargreaves (Raymond, ME) at 74:23.

Coach Jeff Gettler said of the win, "Stephen Berenyi with the opening and game winning goal and Zachary Emeigh with two goals helped Husson to a good performance in a NAC conference win. Both are recently back from early season injuries and are just now finding their form.  Phil Frost also positively contributed with a two goal game and Mason Smith and Jay Cuttle shared in the shutout."

Johnson was able to generate some solid scoring opportunities but Smith turned away a pair of great chances for JSC to preserve the scoreless half.  In all the Eagles earned a 13-6 shot advantage in the first stanza.

Goalkeepers Smith and Junior Jay Cuttle (Kittery, ME) successfully defended the net stopping all 3 shots that came their way.

With this conference win Husson improves to 5-3 on the season, 2-1 in the NAC. Husson continues their weekend of traveling with a stop at Lyndon State tomorrow for an 11:30 match.
