Eagles Sweep Clippers For Fifth Straight Win

Box Score

The Husson Eagles volleyball team swept the University of Maine at Machias Clippers 25-14, 25-8, and 25-21 to pick up their fifth straight win Wednesday night.

With the win, the Eagles improve to 8-5 on the season, while the Clippers fall to 5-3.

The Eagles coasted through the first set with relative ease.  Game two was closer, but Husson used an 11-point run to finish it out highlighted by five aces from Hannah Olstad (Farmington, NH).

Game three was the set of the night, with the Clippers coming out strong and taking advantage early.  Husson trailed 21-16, but were able to earn nine consecutive points to seal the victory.

Eagles coach Pat DeBeck was impressed with his team's performance, but knows they have work to do, saying, "Serving was good tonight, and our service errors were down.  Certain aspects are much improved, but the overall intensity needs to get picked up going into conference".

The Eagles were led by Olstad who had nine kills on 14 attempts and eight service aces to pace Husson.  She also tallied two solo blocks and five digs for the match

Sophomore Alexandra deHertogh (Cumberland, RI) put down five kills and three solo blocks for the Eagles, while Kelsey Burrill (Somersworth, NH) put away four kills.

Senior setter Aleta Johnson (Milton, NH) ran the offense and dished out 22 assists as well as four service aces for Husson.

The Clippers were led by Heather Leonard and Kate Richardson who had two kills apiece for the match.

Senior Elisa Boyd was impressive for UMM from the service line, notching five aces.

The Eagles have their first conference matches of the 2012 season coming up this weekend, as they travel to Green Mountain College on Saturday to take on both Green Mountain and Castleton State.  Match times are schedule for Noon and 4 PM.
