Box Score GORHAM, Maine – The University of Southern Maine Huskies volleyball team was defeated 3-0 (26-24, 25-15, 25-18) by the Husson University Eagles in a non-conference match at Hill Gymnasium on Tuesday night.
With the win, Husson improves to 7-5, and USM drops to 5-10 with the loss.
Husson benefitted from a seven kill, four-ace performance from senior middle hitter Hannah Olstad (Farmington, N.H.), and a team-high nine kills from senior outside hitter Michelle Smith (New Boston, N.H./Goffstown Area) to help down the Huskies.
Junior outside hitters Kelsey Burrill (Somersworth, N.H.) and Kristen Lawrence (Manchester, N.H./Manchester West) tallied seven digs apiece. Burrill turned in five kills, and Olstad and Smith each finished with five digs. Senior setter Aleta Johnson (Milton, N.H./Nute) had three aces and distributed 13 assists.
Junior outside hitter Annie Mitchell (Gorham, Maine) led the way for USM with eight kills, four digs, and two aces, and freshman middle blocker Kelsey Abramson (Deerfield, Mass./Frontier Regional) added seven kills and three aces. Junior outside hitter Madalyn Terry (Kennebunkport, Maine/Kennebunk) chipped in with five kills, four digs, and two aces, and freshman setter Bridget Burns (Warrenville, IL/Wheaton Warrenville South) tallied a game-high 20 assists.
Southern Maine returns to action Saturday when they host Salem State (11:00 a.m.) and St. Joseph's (Conn.) (3:00 p.m.) in a tri-match at Hill Gymnasium.
