Box Score HENNIKER, N.H.— Husson University field hockey outscored the New England College Pilgrims 3-1 in the second half en route to the 4-2 North Atlantic Conference victory Sunday afternoon in Henniker.
With the win the Eagles improve to 5-4 overall and remain undefeated in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play improving to 3-0. The loss drops the Pilgrims to 3-7 overall and evens their NAC record at 2-2.
Husson would get on the board first as junior forward Mariah Arno would convert on an Eagle penalty stroke 14:30 into the opening half.
NEC would knot the game at 1-1 at the 29:29 mark as junior Kristen O'Connell would put in a pass from Kate Roberge, recording her second goal of the season.
The two teams would battle through the remainder of the opening half scoreless as Husson would finish the first frame with a 14-12 advantage in shots.
Husson would grab the lead in the 54th minute of play as Sabrina Vaillancourt would receive a nice pass from Kara Poirier and score her team-high ninth goal of the season.
The Eagles would extend their lead to 4-1 netting two goals in a two minute span, including a nice one-timer by Chrissy Larrabee followed by Poirier who would put in a loose ball in front of the net.
NEC's Kate Roberge would get a goal back for the Pilgrims in the 69th minute but it would not be enough as Husson would finish the game out-shooting the Pilgrims 33-21.
Picking up the win in net for Husson was Maicee Gustin who finished with 14 saves. NEC's Courtney Duquette recorded an impressive 21 saves in net for the Pilgrims.
Husson University will travel to take on non-conference foe Bates College Wednesday, Sept. 26. NEC returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 29 when they host NAC opponent Simmons College.
