Early Goal Puts Husson Past Mariners

Box Score

Bangor, ME- Husson Women's Soccer beat Maine Maritime 1-0 Saturday night at Boucher Field to remain undefeated in conference play.

In the 5th minute of the match Junior Kelsey Brangiel (Newmarket, NH) scored on a pass from First Year Hannah Clough (Mount Vernon, Maine) to put Husson up 1-0. Brangiel was able to cross the ball in front of the net placing it perfectly into the left corner.

The Lady Eagles dominated ball control and kept the Mariners out of Husson territory for most of the game. First Year Erin Boulier (Bangor, Maine) broke up several MMA opportunities especially one that came not too soon after the Husson goal. In the 9th minute she raced down the field to stop a Mariner break away and slid the ball just out of the reach of her opponent, successfully clearing the ball out, and defusing any chance at Maine Maritime matching the score.

Steady pressure on the Mariner net kept MMA goalkeeper Taylor O'Malley (Middletown, RI) very busy. Husson showered the goal with 6 shots in each half and 3 cornerkicks. Zurcher led the offense with 4 shots.

Husson goalkeeper Jess Poulin (Albion, Maine) came up big at the end of the game during last minute efforts by the Mariners. Poulin had 4 saves in the win.

"Tonight was a great team win for us. We came out ready to play after a fantastic week of training, and Kelsey scored a beautiful early goal off a cross from Hannah. Erin Boulier, and really our whole back line, was solid, and the team worked hard to implement our game goals for the night and all the things we worked on in training this week, especially connecting with one another. I am pleased with all the offense we created and very happy that the team pulled off another important conference victory." Said Coach Carly Gettler after the game.

Husson is now 2-7 on the season, 2-0 in conference play. The Eagles will play Colby College at home Wednesday (September 26) night at 6:00PM in a nonconference match up.
