Box Score Bangor, ME - The Husson field hockey team won a commanding victory over conference rival Lasell, 7-1, on Saturday night at the Winkin Complex. First year Britt Mellor (Belfast, ME) got the scoring started at 9:17 when she scored an unassisted goal, her first of the season.
Husson kept the scoring spread amongst the team, as the team went up 5-0 with additional goals by Melissa Souza (East Bridgewater, MA), Mariah Arno (Dover-Foxcroft, ME), Sabrina Vaillancourt (Newport, ME), and Kayla Grindle (Corinth, ME). Francesca Ceppettelli (Enfield, CT), a first year Lasell midfielder, got Lasell's only goal at the 57:01 mark.
Husson responded by forcing an own goal at 65:01 to go up 6-1. Then, junior Liz Noddin (Skowhegan, ME) scored off a penalty corner as time expired to finalize the score at 7-1. First year Husson goalkeeper Maicee Gustin (Dexter, ME) made 7 saves on the night while Lasell first year Cassie Aviles (Bellingham, MA) made 13.
Coach Jen Johnstone said of the win, "It was great to get our first conference win this season. The team exceeded expectations and played to their full potential. It is always fun to play under the lights at the Winkin Complex." Husson improves to 1-0 in the North Atlantic Conference and 3-4 on the season. Lasell falls to 0-2 in the NAC and 2-4 overall.
The Eagles will be back in action next Saturday (September 22) as they travel to play conference opponent Rivier at 1:00 PM.
