Box Score Bangor, ME - A third minute goal put the Terriers ahead of the Eagles in the men's soccer NAC opener at Boucher Field on Saturday night. Thomas forward Michael Hand (Essex, England) scored the contest's only goal off an assist from Dakota Duplisse (Hampden, ME) just as the game was getting started.
Husson was relentless in their attack throughout the remainder of the match, outshooting Thomas 21-9, but the Eagles were unable to capitalize. Stephen Berenyi (Levant, ME), a Husson first year, provided two of the more exciting moments of the contest. Twice, once in the first half and once in the second, he got open looks at goal, but both times Thomas goalkeeper Mikkail Crockwell (St. David's, Bermuda) came up with big point-blank saves. Berenyi, Phil Frost (Bangor, ME), and Vinny Visconti (North Andover, MA) led the Eagles with 12 of the team's 21 shots. Husson outshot Thomas 21-9 on the day.
Crockwell was forced to make 8 saves, while Husson's Brian Potter (Waterville, ME) only needed to make 4. Eagles head coach Jeff Gettler commented, "We lost to a good Thomas team. Thomas came out and scored an early goal which held up for the win. In the second half, I thought we created a good number of chances, but we didn't finish and we ended up with a disappointing result."
Husson falls to 0-1 in the North Atlantic Conference (3-3 overall) and will face conference foe Maine Maritime for the second time next Saturday at 5 PM at Boucher Field. Thomas (1-0 NAC, 3-0-1 overall) will play Southern Maine at home on Tuesday.
