Box Score Husson Women's Soccer Fall Just Short of First Win
Standish, ME- Husson lost 1-0 to Saint Joseph's College Wednesday afternoon, taking the match scoreless into double-overtime.
Saint Joseph's Sophomore Doe Leckie scored with 10 seconds remaining in double-overtime to put Saint Joseph's past Husson University, 1-0, in non-conference women's soccer action at Westerlea Way on the campus of Saint Joseph's College .
Sophmore goalkeeper Jess Poulin stopped numerous opportunities to continue into double-overtime, including one shot by Monk freshman Megen Pollini in the 75th minute. After collecting the ball near midfield, Pollini sent a booming kick towards the top right corner of the Husson goal, forcing Eagles keeper Jessica Poulin to make an acrobatic save as she gripped the ball and pinned it to the crossbar to delay the SJC victory. Poulin had 12 saves in the loss.
The Eagles shot 6 times on Saint Joseph's keeper Jaci Lorenzen. For Husson; Hannah Clough (2 shots), Brittany Williams (1 shot), and Emily Zurcher (3 shots) lead the way with offensive opportunities for the Eagles.
"This was a disappointing loss for us. St. Joe's played a very direct, aggressive game against us, and we handled it well and even outplayed them for much of the game, despite what the statistics show. Unfortunately, we made a few mistakes at the end of overtime and they slipped one in." Said Coach Carly Gettler after the game, "On a positive note, Jess Poulin and Meghan O'Neil were fantastic for us in goal and in the back and did much to keep us in the game. We're going to move forward and focus on conference play from here out."
Husson plays at home twice this upcoming weekend; September 15th against Thomas College at 1:00PM and September 16th against Wheaton (MA) College at 1:00 PM.
