Box Score Bangor, ME – The Husson Eagles basketball team put away the Hornets of Lyndon State College in a close North Atlantic Conference Women's contest, 80-77 at Newman Gymnasium Saturday afternoon. With this being the final game of the regular season for both teams, the Eagles improve to 15-3 in the NAC (15-10 overall), while Lyndon State falls to 7-11 in the NAC (9-16 overall) in the loss.
The Eagles had 5 players reach double digits this afternoon, led by senior forward Brianna Hanscom who scored 20 points on the night while adding 8 boards to her numbers. Hanscom was one of three seniors to reach double digits, Marissa Albert and Amanda Gifford contributed 16 points respectively with Gifford grabbing 7 rebounds. Caitlyn Butterfield made her presence known with 5 assists, 3 rebounds, 1 steal, and a blocked shot.
Lyndon State's Donna Lawson had an outstanding day on the floor with a game high 26 points and 14 rebounds to give her the only double double on the day. Lawson went for a perfect 10-10 from the free throw line. Other key players for the hornets were Naomi White and Chelsea Watson. White chipped in 15 points, grabbed 8 boards, and dished out 7 assists while Watson tallied 11 points and 3 assists.
With under a minute to go in regulation, the Eagles had a 1 point lead coming off a made free throw by Gifford. A jump shot by Lyndon State's Donna Lawson failed to find the net which led to Amanda Gifford grabbing a key rebound. A missed 3 point opportunity by Albert led to another opportunity for the Hornets with less than 24 seconds remaining. Hanscom snagged a crucial rebound with 7 seconds left off a failed attempt by Lawson. Hanscom sank both free throws to take the 3 point lead.
