Henniker, NH – After a difficult defeat on Friday night, the Eagles of Husson University rebounded and downed the New England College Pilgrims 94-72 in Bridges Gymnasium Saturday afternoon. With the win, Husson improves to 11-11 on the season, and 10-5 in the league. The loss drops the Pilgrims overall record to 6-17, and 5-11 in the NAC.
Husson was led by Eric Moidca's (Kittery, ME) game high 20 points, while Phil Leighton (Naples, ME) pulled down six rebounds and added seven points. Daeshawn McMorrin (Naugatuck, CT) chipped in 12 points, and three rebounds.
Leading the way for the Pilgrims was Abdirhman Mohamed (Biddeford, ME) who netted 16 points, despite playing most of the second half with four fouls. Troy Prather (Claremont, CA) was near perfect from the free-throw line, shooting 12-13 for the game.
The beginning of the first half played in the favor of the Pilgrims, as they jumped out to a quick six point lead just four minutes in. The teams traded baskets for the next six minutes, and NEC retained its lead on a free throw by Spencer Marzouk (Greensboro, NC) 21-20 with about 10 minutes to play. The Eagles however slowly climbed out to a solid lead which stayed consistent through the rest of the half. Husson took a 17 point lead into the locker rooms, controlling a 49-32 lead. Husson kept up its pace to begin the second half, opening its lead to 61-40. The Eagles led by as many as thirty points, at three different times in the game, to close out NEC's hopes of recapturing the lead.
The Eagles will play on the road at the University of Maine at Farmington on Tuesday for a 7:30 pm game. The New England College Pilgrims will take the floor again on Thursday, February 16th at Castleton College at 7:30 pm.
