Box Score New London, NH - The Husson University volleyball team had their 2012 season come to a close in a hard-fought North Atlantic Conference semifinal match against Maine Maritime Academy Friday night.
The Eagles won the opening set 25-20, but were taken down by the Mariners in the next three 25-20, 25-22, 25-20, sealing the 3-1 win for MMA.
Husson was led by senior middle hitter Hannah Olstad (Farmington, NH) who had a match-high 14 kills, five service aces, and 11 digs in defeat. Olstad also passed the 1,000 kill mark for her career in her last match as an Eagle.
The Eagles also received strong contributions from junior Kelsey Burrill (Somersworth, NH) who posted 10 kills and 12 digs, as well as senior Michelle Smith (New Boston, NH) with eight kills and 10 digs. Senior setter Aleta Johnson (Milton, NH) notched 31 assists and a team-high 14 digs for the Eagles.
Maine Maritime was led by Sydney Robertson (Barnstead, NH) and Ariel Knights (Brookton, ME), who had nine kills apiece. Robertson added seven digs and four total blocks, while Knights also posted 12 digs and a pair of aces.
Jess Menges (Old Forge, NY) and Jennifer Dixon (Woodstock, MD) each had four kills for the Mariners, with Dixon also contributing 22 assists and 12 digs.
Maine Maritime moves on to face number-one seed Colby-Sawyer College in the NAC Championship Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles' 2012 campaign ends with a 16-10 overall record.
