Box Score Bangor, ME- In another physical match Husson Men's Soccer continued their playoff run with a 3-2 victory over New England College Wednesday afternoon at Boucher Field.
Husson entered the match as the two-seed in the NAC Championship bracket, hot off their win Saturday against Lyndon State 2-1, to battle the three-seed of NEC who defeated Colby-Sawyer 2-1 Saturday in overtime.
Both teams went scoreless for the first 54 minutes of the game. Husson struck first at 54:25 when sophomore Stephen Berenyi (Levant, ME) netted a ball passed up to him by first year Cam Libbey (Hampden, ME), making it 1-0 Eagles.
Just a little over a minute later at 55:28 NEC's Rob Lucas (Hooksett, NH) evened it up 1-1 when he took the ball to the net and sunk it just beyond the reach of Husson sophomore keeper Brian Potter (Waterville, ME).
Husson answered back when senior Captain James Crockford found sophomore Phil Frost (Bangor, ME) who netted his 16th goal of the season at 61:25.
Eagles Taylor Wentworth headed in a ball for his 2nd goal of the season, from Mike Desmond, who redirected a Crockford corner kick in the 67th minute, to make it 3-1 Husson.
NEC wasn't about to go quietly, striking again in the 68th minute when Pilgrims Sean Walsh (Kingston, MA) landed his ball into the net on a Julian Yourawski (Peabody, MA).
The Eagles were able to hold the Pilgrims and finish the game 3-2 for the win. Potter had 5 saves earning the victory. NEC goalkeeper Robert Millard (Barrington, RI) had 7 saves in the loss.
Husson looks to play the winner of the (1) Thomas/ (4) MMA game being played Wednesday, October, 31 at 7:00 PM.
