Box Score Bangor, ME - The Colby Mules trotted into the Newman Gymnasium on Wednesday night and swept the Husson Eagles 25-14, 25-14, and 25-18.
The win improves the Mules' record to 8-4, while the loss snaps Husson's seven match win-streak and drops their overall record to 10-6.
Colby came out and took advantage early on, leading as much as 16-2 in the first set. The Mules overpowered the Eagles in the second set as well, again only surrendering 14 points. Husson kept up with Colby in the third game, as it was tied 10-10 until the Mules went on a six point streak to run away with the victory.
"We just couldn't put together a complete game tonight," said Husson coach Pat DeBeck after the match. "Colby is much improved over the last couple of seasons, and they just outplayed us," he added.
Colby was led by junior Lily Kramlich-Taylor (Sacramento, CA), who put away eight kills on 18 attempts and hit .389 for the match. She also added three solo blocks.
Freshman Natalie Roy (Los Altos, CA) contributed seven kills for the winners, while classmate Kim Donaldson (Colorado Springs, CO) had three kills and a match-high five solo blocks.
The Eagles were paced by senior Hannah Olstad (Farmington, NH), who had 11 kills and three solo blocks in defeat.
Senior Aleta Johnson (Milton, NH) dished out a match-high 20 assists for the Eagles, while junior Kelsey Burrill (Somersworth, NH) had five kills and two aces.
Husson will look to get back on the winning track with two matches on Saturday at the University of Southern Maine. They will take on UNB-St. John's at 1 PM and, the USM Huskies at 3 PM.
