Box Score Bangor, ME- The Husson University Eagles battled the Pilgrims of New England College in a game that got off to a quick start and was tied 15-15 with just over six minutes gone in the first. The first half was closely contested the rest of the way, with the lead changing hands many times.
After the first half the Eagles gained a slight edge finishing the half with 16-9 run to push the score to 50-43. In the second half, Husson got into a groove shooting 50% from the floor, and along with going 70% from beyond the arc in the first half, lead to the 83-63 Eagles victory.
Husson's Eric Modica (playing in his first home game of the season) put up 16 points and 2 rebounds in the first half in his return to Newman Gym. Brad Libby, (also in his home debut) coming off the bench, put up 9 points and 5 boards to be a key contributor.
That trend continued in the second with Modica contributing 8 more for a total of 24 points and was 4 of 5 from three point land. Daeshawn McMorrin went 2-4 from beyond the arc putting up 19 points with 6 rebounds. The Eagles clutch first half 3 point shooting paired with the solid second half free throw shooting brought the Eagles their third conference win of the season.
The Pilgrims Abdirahman Mohamed lead the team with 12 points and 4 total rebounds. He also shot 75% from the line, going 3-4. He was closely followed by Ryan Schmitz who put up 11 points respectively. Jonathan Byrnes put up ten points, shooting 4 of 7 and helping NEC with 2 rebounds. The Pilgrims had a solid first half showing shooting 16-30.
The Eagles play again Saturday afternoon, January 7th at 1pm against the 6-5 Colby-Sawyer Chargers. The Pilgrims also play tomorrow at 1pm at 2-8 Maine Maritime in Castine.
