Box Score LYNDON CENTER, VT — In a repeat of the 2010-11 North Atlantic Conference Championship, the Husson University men's basketball team defeated the Lyndon State Hornets in their home gym on Friday evening.
Luis Medina (Hartford, CT) scored 19 points off the bench, and Marc Zaharchuk (Richmond, ME) added 17 points and nine rebounds, as Husson defeated Lyndon 82-66 in a North Atlantic Conference matchup at Stannard Gymnasium.
The Eagles built an 18-point lead in the first half only to see the Hornets whittle the advantage to a mere eight points with 4:31 left to play. A few key hoops by Zaharchuk down the stretch sealed the win for Husson who improved to 4-9 overall and 4-3 in the NAC.
Phil Leighton (Naples, ME), who scored the first eight points of the game, had 14 points, four assists, two blocks and two steals for the winners while Mike Gonzales (Ft. Washington, MD) and C.J. Hodges (Chester, PA) had 12 points and eight rebounds, respectively.
For Lyndon, Jason Gray (East Thetford, VT) had 13 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and four blocked shots. John Williams (Springfield, MA) chipped in 12 points and the tandem of Ben Sackett (Lyndonville, VT) and Asa Smith (Cheltenham, MD) had 11 each.
The Eagles will return to action Saturday afternoon when they travel to Johnson State for a 2:00 pm start against the Badgers. Lyndon State will play host to Maine Maritime Academy at 1:00 pm on Saturday.
