Box Score Waterville, ME — The Husson University Men's Soccer team ground out a victory over the Terriers of Thomas College 3-2 in today's North Atlantic Conference match up. The loss is the first for the Terriers in the 2011 season as they fall to 3-1 (0-1 NAC) while Husson improves to 3-3-1 (1-0 NAC).
Thomas jumped out to an early lead as Sophomore Kyle Rabe struck for the Terriers at the 6:56 mark off a corner taken by fellow Sophomore Matt Ford putting the Terriers on top 1-0. Sophomore Michael Hand added to the Terriers lead at the 23:42 mark when he finished a pass from freshman Jacob Sirois.
Thomas led 2-0, but rather than go into a shell, the Eagles bounced back, and got on the scoreboard at the 27:44 mark when Trevor Higgins was able to connect a corner taken by Greg Dawson. The Terriers led 2-1 at the half.
Husson tied the game 2-2 at the 51:11 mark when Philip Frost put back a rebound off a shot taken by Trevor Higgins. Shortly after the Eagles' equalizer Thomas starting goal keeper Mikkail Crockwell came up lame after making a save, freshman Winston Trott came in for the captain.
Husson's Tyler Metevier scored the go ahead goal for the Eagles off an assist from Andrew Austin. Husson continued a strong offensive attack from the remainder of the half, but Trott was able to stop the bleeding with assistance from sophomore Gunnar Shelton who added solid defensive play. Trott shouldered the tough loss for the Terriers, while Brian Potter records the Husson win.
The Eagles take the field for a non-conference match up Wednesday against Wheaton College at 4:00 pm. The Terriers travel to Southern Maine on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 for non-conference play.
