Box Score The Husson field hockey team picked up their first loss of the year 4-2 to non-conference foe the University of New England. The Eagles took a 1-1 tie into the break, but couldn't muster up a 2nd half effort to match the visiting Nor'easters who won the period 3-1 to earn the two goal victory.
Husson was responsible for most of the offensive pressure, leading the visiting Nor'easters in both shots (31-16) and corners (19-8).
The Eagles jumped on the board first about 12 minutes into the game when Kajsa Blindow (Morgan, VT) pounded it into the back of the net after corralling a loose ball in front of the cage. UNE came back about ten minutes later when Hannah Tavella (Putnam Valley, NY) received a pass from Laura Egounis (Boscawen, NH) off a short corner to tie the game 1-1 at half.
UNE scored the first tally of the 2nd half less than 10 minutes in, when Casey Clark () streaked down the field for an unassisted tally. Husson fought back to tie three minutes later when Sabrina Vallancourt (Newport, ME) inserted a corner to Melissa Souza (E. Bridgewater, ME) who found Mariah Arno (Dover-Foxcroft, ME) down deep for the tying score.
A minute later, Bree Tupper (Winthrop, ME) took a quick restart from just outside the circle and hit a lazer beam to take the lead. Emily Koehler (Pelham, NH) got some insurance late off a Morgan Tornovish (Nantucket, MA) assist to help put the game away for the Nor'easters.
Husson has another home contest on Wednesday when they host in-state rival Bates at 6:00 pm. UNE will travel to St. Joe's for a 3:00 pm start on Wednesday.
