Box Score Waterville, ME -- The Eagles started out the Coach Johnstone era of Husson Field Hockey with a 6-0 non-conference win over NAC rival Thomas College. The Ealges will play the Terriers again this season, and the second matchup will count as the North Atlantic Conference matchup. Husson got multi-goal performances from Kara Poirier (Berlin, NH) and Casey Pray (Bangor, ME), two of four Eagles to hit the back of the cage on the afternoon.
Mariah Arno (Dover-Foxcroft, ME) started things off at the 15:29 mark from an assist by Melissa Souza (E. Bridgewater, MA) on an Eagle corner. Husson led the Terriers 10-3 in the corners category. Poirier scored her first at 22:48, and the Eagles would go into the half leading 2-0.
One of the Husson Captains, Kajsa Blindow (Morgan, VT) pounded the plywood at the back of the goal to stretch the Eagle lead to 3-0 early in the second half. Poirier got her second less than six minutes later on another unassisted tally and Husson took a 4-0 lead.
Pray would put up the next two marks to close out the scoring, and give Husson the 6 goal victory. Goalie Kristen Capen (Leeds, ME) ate up all 4 shots she faced to earn her first shutout of the 2011 campaign.
The Terriers got some solid goalkeeping from their starter Sofia Sourgiadakis () who saved 14 of the 16 shots the Eagles put on target against her.
