Castine, ME - The Eagles from Husson University defeated the Lady Mariners from Maine Maritime 75-63 in a North Atlantic Conference battle Tuesday night at Margaret Smith Chase Gymnasium.

With the win Husson improves to 11-10 on the season and 9-1 in conference play while the Lady Mariners fall to 13-8 overall and 7-3 in NAC play.

Husson controlled the play from the opening tip, building a 12-point first half lead before MMA chipped away and cut the lead to nine points going into the break. The Lady Mariners fell behind by as many as 15 points in the second half before cutting the lead to sevenpoints with under five minutes to play in regulation. The Lady Mariners couldn't get over the hump as Husson hit back to back three's to put the game away and secure the road victory.

Bethany Sevey (Skowhegan, ME) led Husson with 23 points and seven rebounds while Amanda Gifford (Lee, ME) finished the night with 16 points and five assists. Marissa Albert (Fort Kent, ME) contributed 12 points to the win while Caitlin Butterfield (Gorham, ME) led the team with eight rebounds.

Maggie Smith led MMA with 17 points while Leah Jackson had her second straight double-double chipping in with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Husson shot 44.4% from the floor to MMA's 32.8% and out rebounded MMA 44 to 39.

The Husson Eagles head to Green Mountain on Friday, part of a weekend road trip that will take them to Castleton on Saturday as well. Friday's tip off is slated for 8:00 pm, while Saturday's game will start at 4:00 pm.
