New London, NH – The Colby-Sawyer College women's volleyball team advanced to the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) championship match after a 3-0 sweep over Husson, on Friday evening in semifinal action. The Chargers won by scores of 25-18, 25-13, and 25-9.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 19-14 and will host the winner of Maine Maritime vs. Univ. of Maine at Farmington on Saturday at noon. Husson drops to 18-12 with the loss.
Husson was led by NAC Player of the Year, Hannah Olstad (Farmington, NH) She hit .381 and registered 10 kills. Senior Rachel Voicechovski (Westerly, RI) tallied a match-high 17 digs. Junior setter Aleta Johnson (Milton, NH) recorded 18 assists.
Colby-Sawyer was led by sophomore Courtney O'Hara (Mystic, CT) and freshman Jackie Keating (Marshfield, MA) who each recorded 11 kills. O'Hara hit .348 and added nine digs. Sophomore Ally Le-Bruno (Medfield, MA) collected a team-high 13 digs. Senior Kristin Sawyer (Walpole, MA) had a match-high 25 assists.
The match featured 11 ties and five lead changes.
The Chargers jumped out to an 11-4 lead in the first set and never looked back. Colby-Sawyer led by as much as 12 in the set and breezed to a 25-18 win. The teams traded the first 12 points in the second set before Colby-Sawyer went on a quick 4-0 spurt. Husson trailed 10-9, but saw the Chargers end the set on a 15-4 run to take a 25-13 victory. The Chargers completed the sweep in the third with a 25-9 win, which included a 13-0 run to end the match.
