Husson Secures NAC Regular Season Title With Win at Colby-Sawyer

Box Score

NEW LONDON, NH – The Husson men's soccer team wrapped up the North Atlantic Conference's (NAC) top seed for the upcoming postseason tournament after posting a 4-0 win at Colby-Sawyer on Saturday afternoon. Husson improves to 10-6-1 overall and sit atop the NAC standings at 8-1. Colby-Sawyer falls to 5-10-1 overall and 3-4-1 in the NAC.

The Eagles received a fortunate goal under a minute into the game when a Colby-Sawyer defender tried to handle the baffling long-throw of Andrew Austin (Ellsworth, ME) and in his attempt to kick the ball out of play, it wound up going into the net to put the Eagles on top early.

Husson went up 2-0 in the ninth minute when Philip Frost (Bangor, ME) put home a nice feed from Greg Dawson (St. Andrews, Scotland).

The Eagles held the 2-0 advantage into the half and went ahead 3-0 in the 57th minute on Zach Emeigh's (Ellsworth, ME) fourth goal of the season. Emeigh took a feed from Ahmed Abdirahman (Lewiston, ME) and made a quick step to juke the goalie and slid the ball into the goal past the oncoming keeper.

Husson secured the victory with a fourth goal less than a minute later. Austin sent a flip throw-in towards the box and it was headed into the net by Frost for his second of the day, and his 10th goal of the season.

Husson held advantages in shots (15-10) and corner kicks (6-3).

Husson keeper Mason Smith (Houma, LA) earned the shutout and made three saves. Will Berry (Berlin, VT) made six saves in the loss.

Husson head coach Jeff Gettler was thirlled with his team's performance to earn the top seed, "It was a great game by the guys. We came out and scored on them very early, and got a second one quickly to get things started. We finished well and put it way in the second half; it was a great performance - a championship performance. The guys are extremely excited to be the regular season champs, and we'll be looking forward to finding out who we draw in the NAC playoffs."

Colby-Sawyer hosts Castleton on Tuesday for a NAC regular season finale at 3:30pm. Husson will wait for postseason seeding for their matchup next weekend.
