Box Score Bangor, ME - The Husson Women's Soccer team completed the weekend sweep with a 3-1 victory over the visiting Hornets of Lyndon State. The Eagles controlled the game for the most part, and held off a late comeback attempt to earn the victory. With the win, Husson improves to 4-8 on the season and 3-2 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play. Lyndon falls to 7-4 on the year (2-2 NAC) with the loss.
The Eagles got on the board early when Katelyn Cloutier (Grovetown, NH) took a shot from just inside the 18 that caromed off a Lyndon defender and found the back of the net just 8:20 into the game.
Husson kept up the offensive pressure, netting another in the 12th minute when Katie McLaughlin (Winslow, ME) set up a cross from the right side of the box and found Katie DeShane (Old Town, ME) to put the Eagles up 2-0, a margin they took into the half.
Husson struck again with 36:24 left to play when Amanda Gifford (Lee, ME) found Emily Zurcher (Topsham, ME) who ripped a shot from the top of the box that beat the keeper but banged off the post, and Alex Laniewski (Scarborough, ME) was there for the rebound and make the score 3-0.
The Eagles took the opportunity to get some of their reserves on the field, and the Hornet offense took advantage of the inexperience and mounted a comeback, scoring with 8:27 when Lindi Libera (West Burke, VT) cracked a shot that found the back of the net and cut the Eagle lead to 3-1.
Both teams tied in the shot column, each mounting 10 shots, but it was a tale of two halves as Husson led 7-2 in the first period, while the Hornets led the second half 8-3. Jessica Poulin (Albion, ME) made 5 saves to earn the win, while Tia Billado (Bellows Falls, NH) played 72:32 and earned the loss.
Husson returns to action next Saturday when they host the Pilgrims of New England College for a 3:15 pm start. Lyndon State travels to Johnson State for a 1:00 start on the 8th.
