Eagles Fall to Bobcats Behind Hirshberg's Pair

Box Score

Lewiston, ME - Bates junior Ethan Hirshberg scored both goals as the Bobcat men's soccer team ended Husson University's four-game win streak with a 2-1 non-conference victory on Wednesday at Russell Street Field.

Bates took a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute when Hirshberg (Concord, NH) gathered first-year Nick Ford's (Columbus, OH) kickout pass and lined up a beautiful arcing shot over Husson goalie Mason Smith (Houma, LA).

Husson (7-5-1) evened the score at 1-1 in the third minute of the second half, with Philip Frost's (Bangor, ME) unassisted tally. The equalizer was Frost's second in the past two contests for the eagles

Bates (3-6-0) regained the lead 12 minutes later, when sophomore Ethan Kass's (New York, NY) entry pass to Hirshberg was snuck through a defender's legs, before Hirshberg wheeled around and got his foot on a low shot under Smith's reach.

Senior Brian Goldberg (New York, NY) made two saves in the Bates win. Smith collected eight saves for Husson, as Bates outshot Husson 26-12.

The Eagles return to North Atlantic Conference action this weekend when they travel to Vermont to take on Castleton State at 3:30 on Saturday, and again on Sunday at 2:30 against Green Mountain College. The Bobcats will look to pick up their first conference win on Saturday at Connecticut College, with a 1:30 pm starting time. Bates returns to campus the following day for a Sunday 2:00 pm.
