Box Score 3 CHICOPEE, Mass. – Husson University begins the 2010
volleyball season with a 3-0 record after two days of play at the
Blazer Challenge hosted by Elms Colleg. Husson defeated Elms
College 3-0 (21-25, 17-25, 15-25) in the first match of the Blazer
Challenge. Husson downed Massachusetts Maritime Academy 3-0
(25-13, 25-5, 25-12) to earn its second victory on the day and
improve to 2-0 on the season. In day two of action, the Eagles
outlasted SUNY Cobleskill 3-2 (25-22, 19-25, 25-19, 17-25, 15-8) in
a thrilling match.
Husson received a match-high nine kills from Kaitlyn McKay
(Lincoln, R.I.), while Michelle Smith (New Boston, N.H.) smashed
eight kills to spark the Eagles' attack. Aleta Johnson (Milton,
N.H.) dished out a match-best 32 assists for Husson in the winning
effort, while McKay and Rachel Voicechovski (Jefferson, N.J.)
combined for 17 digs.
For the Blazers, freshman setter Ashley Fuller (Amherst, Mass.)
notched 10 assists, while Clark tallied two solo blocks and
assisted on three others.
During the second day of competition, Husson University
outlasted SUNY Cobleskill 3-2 (25-22, 19-25, 25-19, 17-25, 15-8) in
a thrilling match. Husson improves to 3-0 on the season with the
win, while SUNY Cobleskill slides to 3-1 overall.
Husson's Hannah Olstad (Farmington, N.H.) smashed a match-high 20
kills and notched two solo and three assisted blocks to help pace
the Eagles in victory. Kaitlyn McKay (Lincoln, R.I.) downed 16
kills, while Michelle Smith (New Boston, N.H.) terminated 10 balls
to lead the squad's offensive charge.
Setter Aleta Johnson (Milton, N.H.) handed out a match-best 42
assists, while Rachel Voicechovski (Jefferson, N.J.) dug a
match-high 23 balls in the win. Smith and McKay added 16 and 15
digs respectively while Johnson and Kelsy Burrill (Sommersworth,
N.H.) amassed 13 and 11 digs each.
SUNY Cobleskill was led by Elizabeth Stap's (Pine Brush, N.Y.) 13
kills, while Brooke Burke (Lansing, N.Y.) downed 10 kills. Maggie
Trombly (Chateaugay, N.Y.) led five Fighting Tigers in digs with
22, while Nancy Stephens (Warnerville, N.Y.) and Krista Grady
(Schenectady, N.Y.) totaled 17 each. Burke added 15, while Marcy
Netherton (Lansing, N.Y.) dug 12 balls in the losing effort. Grady
also dished out 31 assists.
