Box Score LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Amanda Gifford
punched home Michelle Manning's corner kick 1:43 into double
overtime Saturday to lift the Husson University women's
soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Lyndon in the Eagles' North
Atlantic Conference opener.
Manning gave Husson a 1-0 lead 21:51 into the first half off an
assist from Kayleigh Piccirillo. The Hornets knotted the score at
1-1 less than 10 minutes later when Hillary Bonasera scored her
second goal of the season at 30:08.
Husson dominated play for most of the contest, but could not
find the back of the net behind Lyndon goalkeeper Samantha Smith.
After a scoreless 10-minute overtime session, Manning teed up the
ball for a corner kick early in double-overtime.
The kick sailed across the Lyndon goal mouth and found its way
to Gifford who redirected the ball toward the net. Despite the
efforts of two Hornet defenders, the ball managed to roll across
the goal line for the game-winner.
Husson keeper Rozlyn Petersen made two saves to earn the victory
while Smith stopped 16 shots in the contest. The Eagles had 29
shots in the game and Lyndon managed six.
