Mules Stomp Eagles 6-2

Box Score

Bangor, ME – Husson University fell to Colby College 6-2 in a late afternoon contest at Husson's Boucher Field.  With the loss, the Eagles fall to 1-5 while Colby improves to 2-1.

Colby reached the scoreboard 14:20 into the first half when Ben Desmond (Sr., Ann Arbor, MI) hit a glancing header that ricocheted off a Husson defender into the goal.  One minute and thirty-seven seconds later, Colby tallied another score when Peter Randall (Jr., Medford, MA) passed an up-field ball to Nick Aubin (So., Simsbury, CT).  Aubin beat Mason Smith (So., Houma, LA) for the goal.  Nate Tolman (Fy., Scarborough, ME) scored at the end of the half off an Andrew Meisel (So., Newton, CT) assist to give the Mules a 3-0 advantage at the close of the half.

The Eagles reached the scoreboard nineteen minutes into the second half when Abdjibar Hersi (Fy., Lewiston, ME) scored off an assist orchestrated by two feed passes from Ahmed Abdirahman (Fy., Lewiston, ME) and Brian Loiselle (Fy., Bangor, ME).

Colby countered one minute later with a Matias Rodlauer (Fy., McLean, VA) goal.  Rodlauer and Meisel would assist Nate Tolman with his second goal of the day to bring the Colby lead to 5-1.

With just under ten minutes left in the game, Greg Dawson hit a knuckler off a set piece that waffled from near to far post, beating the Colby keeper for Husson's second goal of the game.  Colby's Chris Roccotagliata (Fy., Medway, MA) rounded out the scoring off a Meisel assist to make it a 6-2 game.

In goal, Colby's John Gardner (Jr., Winter Haven,  FL) recorded two saves while Smith tallied 15 for Husson.

Head Coach Jeff Gettler reflected on the loss, saying “I don't think the guys came out to play today.  I couldn't be more disappointed in the opening forty-five minutes.  I was pleased with the changes made by new starters for the second half, and with the bench, but very disappointed in our effort this close to conference play.  We need to come out with more.”

The Eagles will return to action on September 25 when they begin North Atlantic Conference play away at Lyndon State.  Game time is set for 1:00.
