Box Score BANGOR, MAINE – The Husson University Men's soccer team
took on the St. Joseph's College Monks and won in a close 2-1
victory. St. Joseph's falls to 3-2 on the season while Husson
improves to 1-2.
Husson struck first in the 17th minute when Edwin
Acosta (JR, Teguagalpa, Honduras) passed down the right sideline to
Tyler Metevier (JR, Kittery, ME), who took the ball to the touch
line and fed a low pass to Alex Martin (JR, Van Buren, ME) in the
box. Martin shot the ball to the keeper's right and netted it
for a 1-0 lead.
In the 46th minute, Husson took a 2-0 lead when Greg
Dawson (JR., St. Andrews, Scotland) received a perfectly-placed
pass from Brian Loiselle (FY, Bangor, ME). St. Joseph's
goalie overplayed and came up on the pass and Dawson took advantage
by squeezing it by him.
In the second half, however, the momentum was clearly with St.
Joseph's College. They were unable to finish on their shots,
but did receive a penalty kick in the 85th minute, which
was netted by Paul Robins (SR, Cornwall, England) when the shot
went off the goalie's fingertips and in the goal.
When St. Joseph's was awarded a corner kick in the
52nd minute, Timothy Davison (JR, Danvers, MA) lobbed it
inside to Teddy Palmer (FY, Scarborough, ME) whose header was
blocked by a Husson defender on the goal line and eventually
snatched up by Husson goalie, Mason Smith (SO, Houma, LA).
With 18:44 left in the second half, Greg Jentgen (FY, Columbus, OH)
took a shot that bounced off of the crossbar and out.
St. Joseph's had 12 shots on goal compared to Husson's 7.
The Monks were awarded 9 corner kicks, while Husson was awarded
2. Husson's Smith ended the day with 11 saves, and St.
Joseph's Nick Campasano (JR, Goffstown, NH) ended up with 5.
