Box Score The Husson University Eagles dropped a 51-0 loss to the
Springfield College Pride at Husson's Winkin Complex.
The Pride rushed for 459 yards on the win to improve to 2-0 while
the Eagles fall to 0-2 on the young season.
After Husson forced a three-and-out on the first Springfield
possession, the Eagles strung together an 11 play 48 yard drive
resulting in a missed field goal attempt by Doug Dieuveuil (Fy.,
Veazie, ME). Another Springfield three-and-out was
followed by a missed field goal for what would constitute
Husson's best scoring opportunities of the game.
The first quarter ended a scoreless 0-0 but Springfield would
quickly reach the scoreboard in the second quarter which began on
the Husson 6-yardline. Quarterback Josh Carter (Jr.,
Marlborough, MA) scored a rushing touchdown to put the Pride on the
scoreboard.
Springfield scored off an Alex Mendez (Jr., Cranston, RI) three
yard rush with 2:16 left in the second quarter. Mendez rushed
for 58 yards in the series to give Springfield a 14-0 lead
following the point after touchdown by Ricky Peacock (So., Tucker,
GA).
The second half ended with a 14-0 Springfield lead over
Husson. In the opening drive of the second half, the Eagles
strung together 9 plays for 65 yards but were forced to punt from
their 48-yardline. Springfield recovered and
Antoine King (Sr., Boston, MA) rushed for 91 yards to score the
game's third touchdown, pushing the Springfield lead to
21-0.
After recovering a Husson fumble, Springfield's Carter hit
Mendez for a 25 yard pass to set up the next scoring drive for the
Pride. Peacock hit a 21 yard field goal bringing the score to
24-0.
Springfield's Joe Myhren (Sr., New Hampton, NY) returned a
Justin Lindie (Sr., Winslow, ME) punt 43 yards to the Husson
10-yardline to set up a rushing touchdown for Erik Chiarella (Jr.,
West Long Branch, NJ). With 23 seconds left in the third
quarter, Carter hit Mark Safer (Jr., St. Johns, FL) with a 27 yard
touchdown pass. The third quarter would end with a
Springfield lead of 38-0.
Springfield's Mendez scored his second rushing touchdown
of the day with a 12 yard rush to push the score to 44-0.
With 3:45 left in the game, Austin Bateman (Fy., Gansevoort, NY)
scored a one yard rushing touchdown for what would be the last
score of the game at 51-0.
For the Pride, Antoine King rushed for 125 yards on five
carries, followed by Mendez with 104 yards and 20 carries.
Husson's Byron Jackson (So., Bridgeport, CT) managed 39 yards
on 12 carries. Quarterback Josh Carter was 7-4 with 73 yards
and one touchdown for Springfield while Husson's Jack Hersom
completed 4 of 12 attempts for 40 yards. Defensively, Tom
Hersom led the Eagles with 6.5 tackles, followed by Vanidestine
with 6.0. Chris Kulcsar recorded 8 tackles and one sack for
Springfield.
