Box Score The Husson University Field Hockey team began their season
Wednesday night with a 4-0 win over Thomas College. The defending
North Atlantic Conference Champions picked up where they left off
with a decisive win that featured two Courtney Allen goals (Sr.,
Gardiner, ME). The win gives the Eagles a 1-0 record on the
early season, while Thomas College falls to 0-1.
The Eagles opened up the first half scoring in the seventh
minute when Allen scored off a short corner as a result of a
rebounded shot from Helen Berry (Sr., Belfast, ME). Despite
the missed opportunity early in the game, Berry would not remain
quiet for long, scoring the second goal of the half in the
twentieth minute. The match remained scoreless until the
sixty-fifth minute when Allen notched her second goal of the game.
Lorri Hiltz (Jr., Norridgewock, ME) capped the Eagles scoring with
a goal in the sixty-ninth minute.
The Eagles shut down Thomas College's offense throughout the
night, allowing only two Terrier shots on goal in the first half,
and none in the second. Husson goalkeeper, Kristen Capen (So.,
Leeds, ME)saved both shots she faced on the evening while Thomas'
Megan Denby(Jr., Copiague, NY) stopped ten of the fourteen shots
she faced in Wednesday night's match.
The Eagles will face off at Keene State on Saturday, Sept. 4 at
1:00 PM. The Eagles' next home game will be held Sunday,
Sept. 19 at 1:00 PM against conference rivals, the University of
Maine Farmington.
