Bangor, ME - Husson University dropped a 69-88 conference game
to the Thomas Terriers. With the loss, the Eagles fall to
12-8 overall and 6-3 in the conference.
Both teams were slow to score early in the first half.
With 8 minutes left in the half, the Terriers pulled away to
a 12-24 lead. Husson's Matt Cummings (Sr., Howland, ME) hit
one of two foul shots to bring the score to 23-26 with the Eagles
trailing. Thomas' Andrew Duncanson (Jr., Portland, ME) hit a
three to make the score 27-31. On a steal, Husson's Eric
Modica (Fy., Kittery, ME) gave the Eagles the lead with a layup at
34-33 and then hit another three to make the score 38-33.
Eagle Phil Leighton (Fy., Naples, ME) ended the half at the
buzzer making it 40-35 with Husson in the lead.
In the second half, Thomas' Jarrad De Vaughn (Fy., Brockton, MA)
tied the game at 49 with an inside layup and Francisco Alicea
gained a 49-51 Terrier lead with another immediate
layup. Duncanson hit both of his foul shots to make it a ten
point Terrier lead at 65-75 with 4:40 left on the
clock. The deficit proved to be too much for the Eagles to
overcome and the game ended with a final score of 69-88.
Josh Jones (Jr., Jefferson, ME) led the Eagles with a
double-double consisting of 16 points and 14 rebounds.
First-year player Phil Leighton collected 13 points followed by
Eric Modica.
Thomas' Jarrad De Vaughn recorded 26 points and 8 rebounds,
followed by Andrew Duncanson with 22 points.
The Eagles return to action when they play away against Maine
Maritime on Tuesday, February 9 at 7:30.
