Late Touchdown Lifts Becker Over Husson

Leicester, Mass.- With twenty-eight seconds remaining in the game, Husson University fell to Becker College following a game winning Hawks touchdown.  The Hawks defeated the Eagles 27-23 in college football action.  With the loss, the Eagles end their season.

Husson got the on the board 1:49 into the game when Justin Lindie (Winslow, ME.) scored on a 32 yard rush. Becker answered back on their next drive. Ezequiel Torres (Ledyard, Conn.) got the Hawks started with a 60 yard kickoff return, giving Becker good field position at the Husson 25 yard line. Thomas Pearson (Fort Washington, MD) capped of the drive with a two yard touchdown scamper. Becker missed the extra point attempt, making the score 7-6 in favor of Husson. The Eagles increased their lead on their next drive when Byron Jackson (Bridgeport, Conn.) scored from four yards out, making the score 14-6.  Husson looked to extend their lead on their next possession when Lee Gustin's (Dexter, ME) 29 yard field goal attempted was blocked by Jesse Fusco (Billerica, Mass). In Edward Guerrere's (Monroe, Conn.) attempted to return the blocked kick he was tackled in the end zone for a safety, giving the Eagles a 16-6 advantage at halftime.

The Eagles increased their lead to 23-6 when Jack Hersom (Sidney, ME) connected with Audie Murphy (Biddeford, ME.) on 36 yard touchdown pass. Becker answered back on their very next drive when Curtis Ludden (Leominster, Mass.) hit Johnattan Rivera (Dracut, Mass.) on a 19 yard touchdown pass. Thomas Pearson rushed in for the two point conversion, making the score 23-14 after three quarters.

On Husson's first drive of the fourth quarter the Eagles were faced with a crucial fourth and one from their own 35 yard line. Justin Lindie attempted a rush but Melvin Booker (Roxbury, Mass.) forced a fumble, Jake Bateman (New Bedford, Mass.) picked up the loose ball at the nine yard line, returning it for a Becker touchdown.  After the Hawks missed the extra point Husson held a 23-20 lead with 11:48 remaining.  With 4:17 remaining in the game, the Hawks blocked another Husson field goal attempt, setting Becker up at their own 27 yard line. Facing a fourth down and 13 from the Husson's 14, the Eagles we called for pass interference, giving Becker a first down at the Husson two yard line.  Thomas Pearson capped off the 14 play drive with a two yard  touchdown run, giving Becker an improbable come from behind victory.

Justine Lindie carried the Eagles offense with 151 yards on 33 carries. Ernest Wiggins (Bridgeport, Conn.) made 10 tackles, including two tackles for a loss. With the loss the Eagles finished the season with a 1-9 record overall and 1-6 in the ECFC.

Thomas Pearson led the Hawks rushing attack with 59 yards and two touchdowns. Curtis Ludden rushed for 102 yards, including 60 on the Hawks game winning drive. Melvin Booker held down the Hawks defense with eight tackles and a forced fumble. Tyler Barnes (Cambridge, Mass.) and Taevon FanFan (Uniondale, NY.) had a combined six tackles for a loss. The Hawks finish the season with a record of 2-8 overall and 2-5 in the ECFC.
