Husson Handles Simmons

Bangor, ME – The Husson Univerity Eagles defeated the Sharks of Simmons College 6-1 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action at Husson's Winkin Complex.  Six different Eagles scored to lift the team to a 6-4 (4-1 NAC) record.  With the loss, Simmons falls to 3-6 (1-2 NAC).

The game's first shot would also prove to be the first goal when Skye Ellis (Sr., Belfast, ME) recovered a loose ball in the Simmons circle and beat the keeper for the Husson score.  Three minutes later off a short corner, Helen Berry (Sr., Belfast, ME) received a pass from Lorri Hiltz (Jr., Norridgewock, ME) and put the ball in the back of the cage.  Husson pushed the score to 3-0 when Jill Morin (Sr., Manchester, ME) scored a backhanded goal to the right of Simmons' keeper, Renna Smith's (Fy., Belfast, ME) off a short corner.  Hiltz tallied her second assist of the day on the goal.

Midway through the first half, Caroline Bochtler (Sr., Turner, ME) powered a high shot that deflected off the keeper's pad and into the net for the fourth Husson goal of the game, assisted by Helen BerryKajsa Blindow closed out the first half scoring with a goal that was assisted by Kait Dingley (So., Lisbon, ME).

The first half would end with a 6-0 Eagle lead, a 10-3 shot advantage for the Eagles, and an 8-1 corner advantage over Simmons. 

Simmons reached the scoreboard in the second half when Zoie Kaley (So., Manchester, ME) carried the ball the length of the field and beat Husson goalkeeper, Kristen Capen (So., Leeds, ME) off her line to the right for the Sharks' goal.

Simmons pressed until the waning seconds of the game when Kaley had an excellent scoring chance and shot turned away by Kapen in goal.

On the day, Husson recorded 17 shots to Simmons' 5.  Smith tallied 7 saves for the Sharks while Capen recorded 2 saves for the Eagles.

Head Coach Katie Flaherty was pleased with the Eagle effort, stating “we came out ready to play and scored early.  It was a good thing because Simmons is a strong team that stuck with it and fought in the second half.”

The Eagles return to action on Saturday, October 16 with a home game against Lasell at 12:00.  Simmons will face Rivier in a home game on October 12 at 7:00.
