Box Score Bangor, ME - The first shot of the game also proved to be the
first goal when Husson's Kasja Blindow (Jr., Morgan, VT) found the
back of the cage fifty-eight seconds into the North Atlantic
Conference contest against Castleton. The Eagles pulled of
the 4-2 homecoming victory over the Spartans, improving to 3-4 and
1-1 in the NAC. With the loss, Castleton falls to 7-2 (1-1
NAC)
Blindow was assisted by Courtney Allen (Sr., Gardiner, ME) who
carried the ball down the length of the field before passing off
the goal. Just under four minutes later, Castleton's Rachel
Preusser (Fy., Craryville,
NY) would answer with a goal of her own, assisted by Kealy
Chipman So., Bellows Falls, VT). The first half scoring
continued three minutes later when Husson's Sabrina Vaillancourt
(Fy., Newport, ME) tallied a goal off a Lorri Hiltz (Jr.,
Norridgewock, ME) assist to give the Eagles a 2-1
advantage.
Toward the end of the half, Vaillancourt tallied her second goal
of the day off a corner that was assisted by Helen Berry (Sr.,
Belfast, ME).
The first half ended with a 3-1 Husson lead. The Eagles
outshot the Spartans 11-8 in the first half.
Twenty-five minutes into the second half, Husson took a
short-corner and the ball ricocheted to a waiting Blindow.
She buried the ball in the back of the cage to push the score to
4-1, earning her second goal of the game. With just four
minutes left in the game, a Castleton goal was scored by a
relentless Preusser, who fought through traffic to receive a pass
from Chipman for the score. The Spartans were spirited in the
second half, tallying 17 shots on goal to Husson's 7, but could not
overcome the goal deficit, losing 4-2.
"We've had trouble scoring last season and this season and today
we found the back of the net," explained head coach Katie
Flaherty. "It was a great conference win against a great
team. We played tough and continued to tough it out until the
end."
In total, Castleton had 25 shots, with 14 on goal to Husson's 18
shots,
12 on goal. Husson's Kristen Capen (So., Leeds, ME) played
an inspired game in goal, recording 12 saves on the effort.
Castleton's Siobhan Whittemore (Sr., Springfield, VT) tallied 8
saves on the loss.
The Eagles return to action tomorrow when they face NAC
opponent, Rivier College in a home contest at 11:00 AM.
