Box Score BANGOR, ME—The Husson University Eagles hosted the
Mariners of Maine Maritime Academy for their homecoming match today
and emerged victorious by a score of 3-0. Both teams played
competitive soccer for the entire duration of the match. The
score remained at zero a piece until Marshall Davis (So., Patten,
ME) took the ball down the field and scored unassisted, giving the
Eagles a 1-0 lead just under 20 minutes into the half.
The score would remain at 1-0 until less than a minute into the
second half, Tyler Metevier (Jr., Kittery, ME) rocketed a free kick
just outside of the keeper's box off the far post and into
the net. The next goal came in similar fashion when Adam
Loiacono (Jr., Cranston, RI) received a free kick from Greg Dawson
(Jr., St. Andrews, Scotland) and put it in the back of the net
using his head in the 65th minute of play. This
would ultimately give the Eagles what they needed to secure a 3-0
shutout against conference rival Maine Maritime.
After the game, Husson Coach Jeff Gettler had this to say about
his Eagles. “The guys came out and played with passion
intensity, and purpose. It was a team effort and they played
the way they're capable of playing. It's
important to get this effort with the match against conference
rival Farmington coming up on October 9 at Farmington.”
The Eagles will take on Amherst College at Amherst Wednesday,
October 6, at 7:00pm.
