Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University football team
used a dominating ground game to power past Husson College, 52-7,
Saturday afternoon in Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC)
action at Sabine Field. The Cadets racked up 461 rushing yards in
improving to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play. Sophomore QB
Kris Sabourin passed for three touchdowns to go with the
team's three touchdowns on the ground.
Norwich opened the game strong, scoring on the first possession
when Sabourin hit sophomore WR Chris Denton with a 55 yard touch
down pass to put the Cadets up 7-0 with 12:15 to go in the first
quarter.
Junior K Long Ding added a field a little over five minutes
later when he connected from 37 yards to push the NU lead to
10-0.
Norwich would add one more score in the opening frame when
Andrew Fulford caught a screen pass from Sabourin and scampered 35
yards for the score, running its lead to 17-0.
The Cadets went on an 11-play, 91 yard scoring drive to open the
second quarter, capped off by a four-yard touchdown run by senior
RB Kyle Marzeoti. Following a Ding extra point the NU lead was 24-0
with 9:13 remaining in the quarter.
Norwich would add one more touchdown in the half when sophomore
Andrew Fulford plunged in from two yards out to make it 31-0 going
into the locker rooms.
The Cadets opened the scoring in the second half when Sabourin
hit senior TE Derek Hungerford with a seven-yard touchdown pass in
the back of the end zone, making the Cadet advantage 38-0.
Norwich would add fourth quarter rushing touchdowns by sophomore
RB Orwin Etkins and senior QB Guershom Jean-Gilles to round out its
scoring on the afternoon and make it 52-0.
Husson got on the board when Kash Keezer hit Ben Foss with a
68-yard touchdown with 2:48 to go in the game to account for the
52-7 final.
The Cadets racked up 557 total yards on offense, including 461
rushing, to the Eagles' 159. NU held a commanding 37:45 to
22:15 advantage in time of possession and had 31 first downs to
Husson's six.
Fulford paced the Cadet rushing game with 110 yards and a score
on 14 carries. Denton led the Cadet receivers with four catches for
54 yards and a touchdown.
The Cadets were led defensively by Alex Montiero with 5.5
tackles. Joe Gumberwicz, Joe Munno, and Dan Reale all pitched
in four tackles apiece.
Both team's return to action next Saturday, as Husson host
Castleton State at 1:00 PM, and the Cadets will travel to Paxton,
Mass., to take on Anna Maria at 1:00 PM.
