Bangor, ME - The Husson University Eagles handled the Hornets of
Lyndon State College with an 89-70 win. Husson's Josh Jones
(Jr., Jefferson, ME) paced the Eagles with a double-double
consisting of 24 points and 16 rebounds. With the win, the
Eagles advance to 12-6 (5-1 conf.) and the Hornets fall to 7-10
(3-4 conf.).
Lyndon State's Jose Fortunato (So., Boston, MA) put the Hornets
on the board first with an inside layup. Husson's Jones hit
six points in the first four minutes to give the Eagles an 11-5
lead they would not relinquish. Hornet Ben Sackett (So.,
Lyndonville, VT) hit a big three to bring the Hornets within 8
points of the Eagles at 35-27.
On the half, Jay Uhrin (Jr., Winterport, ME) and Jones led the
Eagles with 19 points apiece. Sackett led the Hornets in the
first half with 9 points. The half ended at 56-28 Eagles.
The Eagles maintained their momentum and continued to pull away
from the Hornets throughout the second half ending the game at
89-70.
Husson's Josh Jones shot 11-16 and 3-4 from the foul line.
Jay Uhrin tallied 22 points and 4 rebounds while shooting 8-16 and
8-9 from the foul line. Matt MacKenzie (Sr., Warren, ME)
tallied 12 points on the win.
Lyndon State's Jose Fortunato collected a double-double with 17
points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists while shooting 11-12 from the
foul line. Jason Gray (Fy., East Thetford, VT) tallied 15
points and 5 rebounds on the loss.
Husson's coaching staff participated in Coaches vs. Cancer Suits
and Sneakers Weekend on January 29-30. Head Coach Warren
Caruso and his assistant coaches wore sneakers with their regular
game suits to show support for the Coaches vs. Cancer program.
Coaches vs. Cancer is a nationwide collaboration between the
American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball
Coaches that empowers basketball coaches, their teams, and
communities to join the fight against cancer.
The Eagles return to action on Tuesday when they play at home
against University of Maine at Farmington. Game time is set
for 7:30. The Hornets will take on Green Mountain College on
February 2.
