Bangor, ME - The Husson University Eagles bested the Badgers of
Johnson state 84-68. Husson's Josh Jones (Jr., Jefferson, ME)
recorded a double-double, leading the Eagles to the conference
win. With the win, the Eagles improve to 11-6 and the Badgers
fall to 4-13.
Both Husson and Johnson State's coaches participated in Coaches
vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers Weekend on January 29-30. Head
Coaches Warren Caruso and Michael Osborne and their assistant
coaches wore sneakers with their regular game suits to show support
for the Coaches vs. Cancer program. Coaches vs. Cancer is a
nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and
the National Association of Basketball Coaches that empowers
basketball coaches, their teams, and communities to join the fight
against cancer.
Ian Passino (Jr., Peru, NY) got the Badgers on the board first
with a three. Husson's Eric Modica hit a three-point shot to
give Husson a 9-5 lead that they would not relinquish.
Leandro Martinez (Sr., Philadelphia, PA) hit a three of his own to
push the Badgers back to 18-12. Husson's Brad Libby (So.,
Brewer, ME) came off the bench and scored six quick points to make
the score 28-12. Nate Dodge (Sr., Burlington, VT) hit both
foul shots to bring the Badgers within four of the Eagles at 40-36
and ending the half.
Phil Leighton started the second half with two quick layups for
the Eagles to bring the score to 44-36. Ian Passino (Jr.,
Peru, NY) hit a three followed by a two layups to bring the badgers
within 6 points of the eagles at 61-55. Husson's Jones dunked
to give the Eagles a 10 point lead at 60-50 with 11 minutes left in
the game. The lead proved too much for the Badgers to
overcome and the Eagles claimed an 84-68 win.
Husson's Josh Jones tallied 27 points, 17 rebounds and 6 assists
while shooting 11-14 from the floor and 6-6 from the free throw
line. Jay Uhrin collected 15 points and 5 rebounds shooting
7-10 form the floor.
Johnson state was led by Leandro Martinez who contributed 16
points and Charles Harper III (Fr., Philadelphia PA) who notched 13
points , 6 rebounds and 4 assists while shooting 6-11 from the
floor.
Husson University men's basketball program lost the services of
senior Brock Bradford (Kenduskeag, ME) for the remainder of the
season. Bradford sustained an ACL injury in the final minute
of play against U. New England Tuesday night.
Bradford is a four year starter and two year captain for the
Eagles. He is a two time 1st Team All-NAC
selection and a COSIDA 1st Team Academic
All-American. Bradford was the team's 2nd leading
scoring with 15.7 points per game and assist leader averaging 4.9
per game. He finishes his career as the program's 18th
all-time leading scorer with 1329 points, 6th in assists
with 398, and 2nd for career foul shooting at 84%.
