FARMINGTON, Maine - Josh Tanguay (Gorham, ME) led five Beavers
in double figures with 17 points as the University of Maine at
Farmington men's basketball team notched a 73-64 North Atlantic
Conference victory over Husson University tonight at Dearborn
Gymnasium.
Eric Lelansky (Portland, ME) supplied a double-double with 15
points and 10 rebounds for Farmington, while Eric Taylor (Oakland,
ME) also added 15 points and Andrew Dean (Gorham, ME) and Dan Kane
(Bradford, ME) chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Joshua Jones (Jefferson, ME) led the Eagles with 17 points and 10
rebounds, including an 8-for-8 effort from the foul line, with Matt
MacKenzie (Warren, ME) adding 15 points and Brock Bradford
(Kenduskeag, ME) 12 points.
Husson sprinted out of the start to a 13-7 advantage, but the
Beavers knotted the game up at 13-13 -- the first of eight ties in
the frame. Jones knocked down a pair of free throws with 54 seconds
left in the half to give the visitors a 35-34 edge at halftime.
The Eagles maintained their advantage throughout the start of the
second half, but Farmington tied the game up at 53-53 with 12:07
left in the contest. Over the next 5:50, Tanguay netted five points
as the Beavers outscored Husson 8-2 to take a 61-55 lead.
A MacKenzie basket with 2:31 remaining in the game cut the
Farmington lead to 65-62, but the Beavers knocked down eight of 10
free throws to close out the 73-64 victory.
