Box Score Bangor, ME- Husson University cruised by Maine Maritime in an
83-69 victory at Husson's Newman Gymnasium. With the win, the
Eagles improve to 7-4 and will face Maine Machias on Saturday at
2:00.
Josh Jones (So., Jefferson, ME) gave the
Husson Eagles a spark to start the game, hitting 9 of the Eagles
first 17 points. After 7 minutes of play Husson led Maine
Maritime 21 to 6. Every time the Mariners tried to close the
gap, the Eagles found a way to stop their momentum. With many
missed chances and opportunities, the Mariner's Ben Russell (Fr.,
Farmington, ME) helped Maine Maritime keep within striking
distance, leading the team with 11 points after the first half.
Tyler Pineo (So., Corinth, ME) was another bright spot for the
Mariners with 9 points to end the half. At the end of the
first half Husson led Maine Maritime 43-30.
Both teams opened the second half with a hot hand. The
Eagles hit 3 of their first 4 shots, and the Mariners hit 2 of
their first 3. Brock Bradford (Sr., Kenduskeag, ME) found his
stroke hitting the first three shots he took to start the
half. Matt Mackenzie (Sr., Warren, ME) also made his first
three attempts from the field. Bryant Ciomei (Jr., Deer Isle, ME)
of the Mariners got his first 5 points of the game on two
consecutive shots to start the half. Pineo started where he
left off and hit back to back three pointers with 8 minutes to play
to help the Mariners get back in the game. The Eagles led
Maine Maritime 71-56 with 6 minutes to play in the game. The
Mariners tried to claw their way back in the game, but the Eagles'
lead proved to be too much for Maine Maritime.
Josh Jones and Tyler Pineo each had 23 points to end the
game. Philip Leighton of the Eagles had 12 points and Ben
Russell of the Mariners ended with 10. With the win the
Eagles improve to 7-4 and 2-0 in conference play.
