Box Score Bangor, Maine - Husson University scored two
goals in the first half to secure a 2-1 win over Keene State in the
Women's Soccer Classic at John Boucher Field. Shelby Bradford
(Sr., Lee, ME) and Alexandra Laniewski (So., Scarborough, ME) each
had a goal and an assist.
Bradford and Laniewski connected on two first half goals.
Laniewski scored first as Bradford carried the ball into the box
and fed Laniewski on the right to finish the play. Husson
made it 2-0 when Megan Clement found Laniewski who put the ball on
net and Keene State goalie Meghan Dempsey (So., Weymouth, MA)
missed played the ball giving Bradford the opportunity to
finish.
Keene State had a couple good scoring chances in the first
half. Their best chance came when Molly Brunelle (Sr.,
Walpole, MA) hit the cross bar. Nora Mahoney (Jr.,
Belchertown, MA) played the rebound but Rozlyn Petersen (Jr.,
Newport, ME) made the diving save for the Eagles.
There were very few quality scoring chances for both teams in
the second half. The Owls did cut the lead to 2-1 when
Maloney was tripped in the box. Shannon Hennessey (So., Essex
Junction, VT) took the penalty kick and fired it past Petersen with
:37 seconds to play.
Petersen finished with 6 saves while Dempsey finished with 7 for
the Owls. The Eagles move to 3-1 while Keene is now
2-1.
Game 1 - Western New England College scored two
second half goals for a 2-0 win over Mount Saint Mary
College. Cathy Regan (So., Monroe, CT) and Nicole Poli (Jr.,
Medfield, MA) each scored to pace the Golden Bears.
Regan scored in the 52nd minute for her first goal on
the season. Heather Mortell Jr., Webster, MA) fed Regan in
front of the net and she put it past goalie Casey Roland (Fy.,
Bethpage, NY) on the right side.
WNEC went up 2-0 with 12 minutes to play when junior Shannon
Pescarello (Wethersfield, CT) served a corner kick which Poli
received and fired it past Roland. Goalie Jessica Covino
(Sr., Bristol, CT) had to make only 2 saves both coming on direct
kicks.
Roland finished seven saves against 25 shots. Mount Saint
Mary drops to 0-3 while WNEC is now 1-1.
