Box Score Fort Kent, Maine - The Eagles opened their
season with a loss to University of Maine at Fort Kent 4-0 on
Alumni Memorial Field. U. Maine Fort Kent ranked #8 in the
NAIA Pre-season Poll got 2 goals from sophomore Keith Williams II
(Trinidad & Tobago) and 3 assists off the foot of Emlyn Jacoby
(Sr., Johannesburg, S. Africa) for their first win of the
season.
Williams got the Bengals on board in the ninth minute off a two
touched corner kick from Emlyn Jacoby (Johannesburg, S.
Africa). The half ended 1-0 as the two teams played even for
the remainder of the first half.
The Bengals struck for two goals just five minutes apart midway
into the second half. Sophomore Jermaine West (New Baalbec,
Jamaica) was able to break free at the top of the 18 and beat
Husson keeper Miquel Dominquez (Jr., Rome, GA) high in the
59th minute. Just over five minutes later, Jacoby
got his second assist of the match on another corner kick has he
found junior mid Luka Odak (Kutina, Croatia) in front of the Husson
net who finished with a nice header in the 65th
minute.
Williams and Jacoby hooked up again in the 88th
minute for the Bengals final goal. Dominguez was busy for
most of the day making eight saves on twelve shots on goal while
UMFK keep Giovanni Sinclair (Jr. St. Elizabeth, Jamaica) earned the
shutout making two saves on two shots on goal.
Husson is now 0-1 while U. Maine Fort Kent is 1-0.
Husson will travel to Western New England College for a
tournament over the weekend. They will play Springfield
College on Saturday, September 5 at 3:00 pm. If they win they
will play Sunday, September 6 at 12:00 pm and if they lose they
will play at 3:00 pm. U. Maine Fort Kent will travel to
Thomas College on Saturday, September 5 for a 3:00 pm kickoff.
