Husson University defeated University of Maine at Fort Kent
89-66 notching their first win of the season. With the win,
Husson improves to 1-5 and U. Main Fort Kent falls to 2-4.
Shelby Bradford (Sr., Lee, ME) put Husson on the scoreboard
first with four quick points, sparking an 11-0 Eagles
run. The UMFK Bengals fought back to within six points
of the Eagles to make the score 17-9 early in the first half.
UMFK's Morgan Chasse (Fy., Veazie, ME) hit a three point shot to
put the Bengals within three points of Husson midway through the
second half and Maliesha Caesar (So., Canyon, St. Kitts) tied
the game at 25 with a layup. The Eagles pulled away from the
Bengals with two made foul shots, a quick turnover and a layup by
Bradford. Noelle Lincoln (Jr., Dixmont, ME) hit a big three
to give the Eagles a 34-27.
Husson's Bethany Sevey (Jr., Skowhegan, ME) hit two
three-pointers to help the Eagles to a 52-34 lead at
halftime. The Eagles opened the second half with 8 unanswered
points. The score differential proved to be too much for the
Bengals to overcome and the game ended with an 89-66 Eagle
win.
Kristen Violette (Sr., Eagle Lake, ME) recorded a double-double
for the Bengals with 18 points and 10 rebounds while shooting 12-14
from the foul line. Caesar collected 11 points and 8 rebounds
shooting 5-7 from the floor on the Bengals' loss.
Husson's Brianna Hanscom (So., Mattawamkeag, ME) scored 16
points and 3 rebounds to lead the Eagles to victory. Bethany
Sevey (Jr., Skowhegan, ME) was another key contributor with 16
points, shooting 8-11 from the floor and 2-2 from the foul
line. Bradford tallied 14 points and 6 rebounds followed by
Erica Lyford (Fy., Legrange, ME) with 10 points.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday, December 12 in a
home contest against St. Joseph's. Game time is set for 2:00
PM.
