Bangor, ME - Husson University's Shelby Bradford scored a first
half hat trick in the Eagles' 4-1 win over Johnson State.
Bradford's trio of goals elevated her season tally to
13. With the win, Husson improves to 12-4 (5-1conf.) and
Johnson State falls to 6-6-1 (1-3-1 conf.).
The Eagles scored early in the first half when Katelyn
Butterfield (Jr., Gorham, ME) passed a through ball to Shelby
Bradford. Bradford beat her defender, dribbled into the box
and scored on a low side netting shot. Midway through the
second half, Bradford notched her second goal off of a
give-and-go. Bradford passed to Alex Laniewski (So.,
Scarborough, ME) who passed back to Bradford. She took a
touch on the ball and fired a close range goal to up the score
2-0. Six minutes later, Husson's Katie McLaughlin (So.,
Winslow, ME) collected a loose ball in the goal box and tipped it
to Amanda Gifford (So., Lee, ME) who scored the third Eagle goal of
the game.
Bradford earned her hat trick off a beautiful and unassisted
forty-yard shot that struck the top shelf of the Badger goal.
The final Eagle goal of the game came when Katie McLaughlin served
a pass in the air to a waiting Amy Sanz (Sr., Tyngsboro, MA).
Sanz volleyed the ball out of the air and into the Badger net for
the Eagles' fifth and final goal of the game.
With two minutes left on the clock, Johnson State goalkeeper,
Morgan Soloman (Fr., Cavendish, VT), made an excellent save by
coming off her line to shut down a Husson break-away. Soloman
recorded four saves on 15 Husson shots in the half.
Johnson State's Ally Bataille (Fr., Waterbury, VT) scored
a goal eleven minutes into the second half. Jacqueline Poutre
(Sr., Underhill, VT) dribbled the ball to the eighteen-yard box and
passed the ball across the top of the box to Bataille.
Bataille ripped an upper shelf goal for the Badgers' score of the
game.
