Box Score Bangor, ME – Husson University opened the season with a
73-65 win over U. Maine Fort Kent at Newman Gym. Jenny Rollins (Sr,
Corinth, ME) led the way with 27 points including 5 three
pointers.
UMFK built a 25-15 lead with 7:02 left in the first half on a
jumper by Tara Waltz (So, Whitefield, ME) capping off a 16-5 run.
The Eagles answered with a 15-6 run over the last 7:02 of the half
to trail by only one at half time 31-30.
Husson started strong in the second half going up 40-34 at 16:23
mark off a 12 foot jumper by Bree Hanscom (Fr, Mattawamkeag, ME).
Shir Fuchs (So, Herzeliya, Israel) put the Lady Bengals up 56-53
with 7:22 to play. Laura Archer (Sr, Ellsworth, ME) answered right
back with a 3 from the top of the circle sparking a 14-5 over the
next six minutes. Rollins had 8 points in the run including two
threes and a baseline jumper, she had 16 second half points.
Hansom finished with 15 points and 6 rebounds. Ashley Bragdon (Jr,
Newport, ME) helped ignite the Eagles in the second half
contributing 7 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists. Husson shot 52.9%
in the second half including 4-8 from the arch.
UMFK was paced by Ashley Ames (Sr, Dexter, ME) with 23 points and
12 rebounds. Fuchs had 18 points and 4 rebounds. After shooting 50%
in the first half, the Lady Bengals shot only 34.4% in the second
half. They finished with 22 turnovers.
Husson travels to U. Southern Maine Tournament on Friday, November
21st and 22nd. U. Maine Fort Kent travels to Endicott Tip Off
Tournament on November 22nd and 23rd.
