Box Score Bangor, ME – The Eagles used a balance attack as six different players score touchdowns in the 39-21 victory. Husson dominated the line of scrimmage, racking up 372 yards of offense and the Eagles defense limited the Pride to 172 total yards.
Justin Lindie (So, Winslow, ME) got the Eagles out of the gate early in the game as Husson scored on their first drive. Lindie capped off a 4 play 30 yard drive with a 7 yard touchdown run. The wind played a major factor all day as Husson's defense forced a 3 and out on Springfield's opening drive and Jason Hurlock's (Sr, East Lyme, CT) 15 yard punt into the wind set up good field position for the Eagles.
The Pride answered at the end of the 1st quarter on a 1 yard touchdown run by Justin Fuller (So, Berkley, MA). Fuller capped off an 11 play 64 yard drive to tie the score at 7-7.
Husson scored two unanswered touchdowns to take control of the game. After Springfield's tying touchdown Husson marched 60 yards on 9 plays to go up 14-7. Julius Williams (Jr, Boston, MA) ran it in from 8 yards out. James McCandless (Fy, Hollywood, FL) completed a 13 yard pass to James Dobson (Jr, Berwick, ME) and a 15 yard personal foul kept the drive alive for Husson.
The Eagles defense stepped up again forcing another 3 and out. Hurlock unloaded a 72 yard punt which reached the end zone and Husson took over on the 20. McCandless scored from 10 yards out to make it 20-7 as Darren Gauthier (Sr, Brunswick, ME) kick failed. McCandless completed another big third down play hitting TE PJ Dowe (Sr, Bangor, ME) on a 21 yard pass for a first down.
Husson seemed to be in control as the two teams swapped punts. Springfield started their next scoring drive at their own 36 looking to close the gap before half. The Eagles look to have the drive stalled as Bobby Gilbert (Jr, Beaver Cove, ME) stopped Mark Safer (Fy, St Johns, FL) for a 10 yard loss but the Eagles were flagged for a face mask giving the Pride a big first down. QB John Schmaltz (So, Cromwell, CT) connected with Tim Brady (So, Southbury, CT) for a 19 yard touchdown making it 20-14 with 1:13 to go in the half.
That was enough time for McCandless to engineer another scoring drive. Starting at their own 27 the Eagles put together a 6 play 72 yard drive to make it 26-14 at the half. Lindie had two rushes for 9 and 8 yards respectfully while McCandless scrambled for 10 more. Husson face 3rd and 2 at the Springfield 30 with 6 seconds left when McCandless completed a 30 yard touchdown to Dobson as he made a great over the shoulder catch in the back of the endzone.
Lindie opened the second half with a 65 yard return setting the Eagles up at the Springfield 32. McCandless didn't come out for the second half after taking a hard hit towards the end of the half. Husson could not take advantage of good field position as the drive stalled because of two penalties. Husson finished with 11 penalties for 90 yards.
Springfield regained momentum scoring a 15 yard run by Joe Myhren (So, East Hampton, NY) cutting the lead to 26-21. Myhren had 34 yards on the 8 play 48 yard drive.
After a couple stalled drives by both teams, Husson took over on their own 37 looking to regain momentum. First year QB Jack Hersom (Fy, Sidney, ME) put together a 9 play 63 yard drive to put the Eagles up two scores. Williams and Lindie carried the load with 53 yards on the ground. Hersom connected with Dowe on a 10 yard touchdown pass for his first career touchdown pass. Lindie set the touchdown pass up with a 21 yard run to the 10 yardline.
Kyle Vanidestine (Fy, Bangor, ME) ended Springfield next drive with an interception at the Springfield 37 which he returned for a touchdown making it 39-21.
The Eagles defense led the way as they limited Springfield to 173 yards. The Pride came into the game averaging over 300 yards per game. Earl Wilson (Fy, New London, CT) had 6 tackles to lead the Eagles while Keith Runne (Sr, Jefferson Township, NJ) had 6 tackles. Husson recorded 13 tackles for losses. Pat Ouellette (Sr, Brunswick, ME) and Dominic Torch (Rochester, NH) controlled the line of scrimmage making 10.5 tackles combined.
