Robby MacDonald

Robby MacDonald joined the Husson University men's swimming & diving program as an assistant coach prior to the 2017-18 season.

CAREER AT A GLANCE:

  • Since joining the men's swimming & diving program prior to the 2017-18 season, MacDonald has helped the Eagles to a 35-17 record, in addition to a North Atlantic Conference Championship in 2021.
  • MacDonald has coached two North Atlantic Conference Swimmer of the Year winners - Steven Johnston (2022, 2023).
  • MacDonald has guided three North Atlantic Conference Diver of the Year selections - Spencer Bernat (2022, 2023, 2024).
  • MacDonald has mentored two North Atlantic Conference Rookie of the Year honorees - Nathan Gilliam (2022) and Alex Walsh (2023).
  • MacDonald has tutored multiple North Atlantic Conference All-Conference members - Steven Johnston (2019 x4, 2020 x3, 2022 x5, 2023 x3), Tom Cote (2019 x2), Joe Vail (2019 x3, 2020 x3, 2022 x3), Dan Egan (2019, 2022 x4), Spencer Bernat (2020, 2022, 2023), Nathan Gilliam (2022 x3, 2023), Andrew Cote (2022), Brady Hand (2023) and Ryan Emerson (2023 x2).
  • Has coached numerous New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association All-New England selections - Steven Johnston (2019 x2, 2020 x3, 2022 x4), Spencer Bernat (2020, 2022), Hunter Jackson (2022), Isaias Therio (2022), Nathan Gilliam (2022 x2), Joe Vail (2022), Andrew Cote (2022), Dan Egan (2022).
  • At Bangor High School, MacDonald helped the Rams to their first state title in 1976 and six state crowns overall during his 11-year tenure. MacDonald also won Maine High School Swim Coach of the Year in 1976, 1981 and 1982, in addition to receiving the John Bapst Quarterback Club Award for performance of swimmers and teams in 1977.
  • MacDonald served on the coaching staffs of Jack Nelson, a former United States Olympic Swim Coach, at swim camp in Ft. Lauderdale and Bob Miller, a former National AAU Coach of the Year.
  • At Colby, MacDonald led the women's team to a combined 23-6 dual-meet record in his three years, while also helping the Mules earn their first All-American swimmer in 1988, in addition to leading the men's program to its highest winning-percentage in program history as of 1988.
